Why Conserve Water?

We use water daily to water plants, stay alive, wash clothes, provide power, control fire and for many other things. Water is available in plenty on the earth then why we need to conserve water? The reason behind it is that the people on the earth use fresh water faster then it can be naturally replenished. To provide fresh and clean water to people, it is cleaned at water treatment plants and from there it is supplied to residential households for there daily needs. So, we need to conserve water to minimize its wastage. When we save water we are also saving energy because the less water we use, the less energy will be used for pumping and treating water. On the other hand if you less hot water, it will save you on water heating.

What Can I Do?

Apart from using less water for your daily needs, there are other plenty of ways to save water. Just look at the list below as how you can save water by adopting these techniques. 

Ways to save water in kitchen
  1. When washing dishes by hand, fill the sink basin or a large container and rinse when all of the dishes have been soaped and scrubbed.
  2. Don't let the faucet run while you clean vegetables. Infact, clean them in the pan of clean water.
  3. Always have the bottle of clean water in the refrigerator, This will help in reducing the running tap water.
  4. Turn off water faucets tightly so they don't drip.
  5. When you wash dishes by hand don't left the water running for rinsing.
  6. Re-use the water left over from cooked or steamed foods to start a scrumptious and nutritious soup.

Why we need the tips?

We people waste a lot of energy in our daily usage either by not turning the lights off when not in use or by putting the appliances on standby power or not switching off the vehicle when the traffic light is long. Energy needs to be conserved not only to cut costs but also to preserve the resources for longer use. Resources should be used economically to conserve them for future use since they are limited and will expire one day. Ways To Save Energy

Ways to Save Energy at Home:
  1. Turn off air conditioning systems in un-occupied rooms and try to keep the room cool by keeping the curtains. Doing this will help in conserving energy and less consumption.
  2. Turn off the lights when leaving the rooms and use dim lights in galleries, lobbies, balconies and bathrooms.
  3. Make maximum use of sunlight during the day. Drapes or curtains on windows & doors are to be drawn apart during day time, for natural light to reduce need for electrical lights inside the home.
  4. Geysers consume the maximum amount of electricity. Use them to heat only that amount of water that is required. Thermostat can be set to a lower temperature i.e. 45 to 50 degrees.
  5. Switch Off Appliances When Not In Use. Never forget to switch off lights, fans, refrigerators when you are going out for an outing on the weeekend.
  6. Use compact fluorescent bulbs more often as they consume 10% less power then the normal bulbs.

Why Conserve Energy?

Energy should be conserved since we are consuming disproportionate amount of energy and that day is not far when all our Non-Renewable resources will expire forcing us to rely just on Renewable Sources. The electricity that we use comes from nuclear power, coal power plants, Oil that we use to run our vehicles are fossil fuels that were created million of years ago from decaying plants. When burned they emit carbon-dioxide which is harmful to humans and the environment. Apart from these it also helps us to save money, mitigates the numerous adverse environmental and social impacts associated with energy production and consumption. These include air pollution, acid rain and global warming, oil spills and water pollution, loss of wilderness areas, construction of new power plants, foreign energy dependence and the risk of international conflict over energy supplies. Energy conservation extends the lifetime of equipment and reduces the maintenance cost by operating less hours and at less than maximum capacity.

Reduce Consumption on Non-Renewable Sources

Consumption on Non-Renewable Sources must be reduced as much as possible.
  1. Resource Depletion : By using these resources in excess, they are going to deplete one day and will take another millions of years to form again.
  2. Save Money : Usage of fluorescent bulbs , solar electricity may cost expensive initially but prove to be cost-effective in the long run. Many energy efficiency and conservation measures are better investments than the stock market or bank interest.

What is GreenHouse Effect?

The greenhouse effect is the rise in temperature that the Earth experiences because certain gases in the atmosphere (water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane, for example) trap energy from the sun. If these gases don't trap energy from the sun, than the temperature of the earth would average to some 60ºF colder. Because how they warm our planet these gases are called as greenhouse gases and the effect they create in the atmosphere is called as Greenhouse Effect.

What causes GreenHouse Effect?

Earth receives most of it's energy from called radiation from sun. The incoming solar energy has a very short wavelength and passes through the atmospheric gases unaffected to reach the earth's surface. About 30 percent of the sunlight that beams toward Earth is deflected by the outer atmosphere and scattered back into space. The rest reaches the planet’s surface and is reflected upward again as a type of slow-moving energy called infrared radiation. The earth's surface absorbs the solar energy and releases it back to the atmosphere as Infrared radiation, some of which goes back into the space. Now some of the IR radiation emitted by the earth is absorbed by the gases such as water vapor, carbon dioxide and methane, in the atmosphere that re-emit the energy as heat back toward the earth's surface and slows its escape from the atmosphere causes the warming known as the Greenhouse effect.

Who uses Energy?

We human beings have been using vast proportions of earth's natural resources for our own needs. We use energy for or heating and cooling, lighting, heating water and operating appliances. Apart from that we use energy for many purposes, such as traveling in airplanes and cars using oil that is converted into gasoline. The U.S. department of energy has divided energy users into 3 category: Residential and Commercial, Industrial and Transportation. Residential and commercial uses energy to light up their homes, for heating and cooling purposes and to fulfill their daily basic needs. Industrial sector mainly consume energy for lighting up of offices, running machines, for heating and cooling purposes. Transportation sector uses energy for uploading and downloading of goods and services from one place to another. Their mainly source of energy is oil on which transportation sector depends.

Overview of World Energy

According to U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the demand for global energy is is projected to grow 44% between 2005 and 2030, driven by robust economic growth and expanding populations in the world's developing countries. It has also been reported that the dependence on coal has increased sharply by the developing countries in the last few years and will continue to increase unless these nations change their existing laws and strategies and particularly those related to greenhouse gas emissions, robust growth in coal use is likely to continue. These projections are driven by strong long-term economic growth in the world's developing nations. The current global economic downturn will dampen world energy demand in the near term, as manufacturing and consumer demand for goods and services slows; however, with economic recovery anticipated to begin within the next 12 to 24 months, most nations are expected to see energy consumption growth at rates anticipated prior to the recession.
